The Chevy Equinox gets some serious upgrades for 2007, making it even more competitive in the small SUV market. Where some SUVs get by with a four-cylinder engine, the Equinox employs a 3.4L V6 built by General Motors. This motor makes 185 horsepower at 5,200 rpms, and 210 lb-ft of torque. It is backed up by a five speed automatic transmission. The Equinox is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and in LS or LT guises. The LS includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock disc brakes at all four wheels. A roof spoiler adds a jaunty note and helps to keep the back window cleaner. Air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, keyless remote entry, automatic headlights, and a roof rack are all standard equipment, too. The LT adds an upgraded AM/FM stereo that is MP3-compatible. There are remote audio controls on the LT's tiltable, leather-covered steering wheel. We found the upgraded cloth seats to be very comfortable. You also get floor mats and fog lights. The interior is especially flexible regardless of the trim. In addition to the expected folding rear seat, the back seat also slides fore and aft. This allows you to extend the leg room for the rear seat passengers, or make room in the back for a few extra boxes. Available options on the LS include side curtain air bags, 17-inch alloy wheels, and most of the LT equipment. The 17-inch wheels can be ordered on the LT, as well as a host of audio systems, a navigation system, a DVD entertainment system, leather seating, heated seats, a sunroof, remote start, and enhanced trailering ability. Loaded up, the top-of-the-line LT can become quite lavish.
